Winter is here, and that means bad news for your skin. As most of us know, winter and skin are not the greatest of friends.
Many of us are worried about taking care of the rest of our holiday shopping, or cooking the last batch of gingerbread cookies for the Christmas feast we have prepared, but we all need to remember an essential part of what should be in our daily routines: skincare and the ongoing battle with the dry skin winter gives us.
As it gets colder outside, the lack of moisture and the dry environment allows for chapped lips, scaly legs and cracked hands… No thank you. The winter weather demands an upgrade to your skin care regimen, because nothing complements that seasonal vampy lip more than a hydrated glowing face.
Check out our 9 golden winter skincare tips:
Moisturizing is a very important part of our skin regimen, but particularly so in this dry, freezing weather. We love the Nerium AD Day Cream for its 4 essential moisturizers that will keep your skin supple and glowing all day long. Be sure and remember to apply it within a few minutes of your morning shower to help trap that much-needed water.
2. Stay Hydrated.
Water is an essential part of our skin care. If you are dehydrated than your skin directly reflects that. Always carry a water bottle around with you so you can always quench your thirst and give your body the water it needs to internally combat the cold weather.
3. Don’t forget your Vaseline.
Vaseline is an all purpose product, and it is especially useful for your skin. Dry knees and elbows? Put Vaseline on it. Cracked lips? Put Vaseline on it. Dry Feet? Put Vaseline on it. They have small travel-size Vaseline bottles that can fit in your purse or in your bag-pack so you can carry it on the go and apply whenever you need it.
4. Break out the humidifier.
Unless you already live in a dry climate, you probably don’t have a humidifier always on in your room or somewhere in your house. But humidifiers are especially nice during the wintertime to help relieve and prevent a flaky, itchy outer layer of skin from forming.
5. Brush your lips with a toothbrush to get rid of excess skin.
Chapped lips are no fun, you can help to prevent them by doing this during the colder seasons.
6. Don’t forget your Chapstick.
No one likes chapped lips. See above tip! And as a bonus we thought you’d like to know what there is now holiday-flavored Chapstick for your enjoyment during the winter months.
7. Don’t use drugstore makeup remover wipes
Use cold cream cleanser instead! The towelettes are pretty darn convenient but the cold cream removes makeup AND moisturizes. Try to stay away from products with added alcohols and sulfates because all they do is dry as well as irritate your skin. We recommend Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser
8. Slather on the sunscreen.
Yes, you read correctly. Sunscreen isn’t just for summertime. Winter sun, combined with the snow glare, can still damage your skin. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen to your hands (if they’re exposed) and your face about half an hour before going outside. Remember to reapply if you plan on being outside for long periods of time.
We spoke about the 4 essential moisturizers in the first tip above. Using both the day and night cream gives you not only round-the-clock protection from dry skin, but also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. When your skin is dry, wrinkles can become even more pronounced, and who wants that? Do away with those unsightly wrinkles by using Nerium AD Age-Defying Treatment and you will be looking and feeling your best all winter long.
